Este fin de semana, desde el Southbank Centre de Londres, los BAFTA Television Awards, la noche más importante de la televisión británica, celebraron el talento y la creatividad en la industria televisiva, frente y detrás de cámaras. Adolescence, la serie dramática de Netflix, se consolidó como la gran ganadora de la noche al obtener cuatro galardones de sus once nominaciones. El logro no solo marcó un hito para la ceremonia, sino también para la producción, que horas antes ya había recibido dos BAFTA Television Craft Awards.
Greg Davies condujo la ceremonia, que arrancó con los premios a Mejor Actriz y Actor de Reparto para Christine Tremarco y Owen Cooper, ambos integrantes del elenco de Adolescence, serie que también se llevó el reconocimiento a Mejor Serie Limitada. Otros títulos que levantaron la estatuilla fueron Eastenders, The Studio, Code of Silence y Amandaland.
Algunas sorpresas de la velada incluyeron el primer BAFTA de Stephen Graham como Mejor Actor, así como el reconocimiento a Mejor Actriz de Narges Rashidi por Prisoner 951, superando a algunas de las figuras más importantes de la televisión británica como Aimee Lou Wood, Erin Doherty, Jodie Whittaker y Sian Brooke.
La nostalgia se apoderó del escenario cuando Seth Rogen, quien ganó el BAFTA a Mejor Serie Internacional por The Studio, recordó a la gran Catherine O’Hara. En otro momento destacado, Paapa Essiedu y Nick Frost, quienes interpretarán a Severus Snape y Hagrid, respectivamente, en la serie de Harry Potter, agregaron un toque cómico a la velada. La política no podía faltar y el triunfo de Gaza: Doctors Under Attack reveló que la BBC habría intentado archivar el proyecto años atrás.
Entre los números musicales, Cat Burns interpretó ‘How to Be Human’, mientras que Aurora cantó durante el segmento del ‘In Memoriam’. Davies se encargó de homenajear al fundador de CNN, Ted Turner. El BAFTA Honorífico fue para Mary Berry y Martin Lewis.
